Artist's Comments

This is the head I created for my first Asian-style Ball Jointed Doll. He's made from Sculpey firm, and I knitted that hat since I don't have any real wigs for him yet, and I bought the eyes from an American doll-making supplies company online. they're actually blue, but the lighting for some reason made them look hazel. oh well. XD

The reason I'm naming him Jazz is because - while he's not meant to be modeled after my human version of Jazz specifically - the shade the Sculpey is turning after every baking session I make while I modify it is becoming a nice, soft brown, so I figured after the full doll was made, the sculpey prototype will become my human Autobot Jazz. ^_^ hehehe

If I can finish him in time, I hope to put him in my Senior Show next year for college, and I'll hopefully sell him once I make the molds from him and start casting him in resin. I hope you like him. ^_^ Constructive criticism is totally accepted, if you can tell me anything about him that might help, I'm all ears. I'm mainly thinking the lips need something changed about them, and it might help my sculpting once I get a dremel, after I get a job. ^_^ So yeah, anything you can tell me, I'm all ears! hehehe

sculpture is interesting... I lack skills, but tried a couple of time and really, making heads is so hard!

What kind of material you use?

Wow, he looks good so far! ... Since you asked for constructive critism here we go:

His face shape looks very even, but his eyes seems to lean more towards his right side and look a little uneven. The eye shape over all looks nice, but I think the outside of the eyes need to come down a little to avoid the boxy look. I really like his noses and it seems pretty centered on his face. His lips though, I think lack definition. :/ Though I'm unaware of what sort of look you're going for him, but I think a nice slighlty full bottom lip would loke great. >w<

I know this is probably OLD news to you, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

Haha yeah, I definitely see all the things you mentioned there. I've actually done a lot of work on the head since I posted this, I just haven't had a chance to take new pictures of it to upload. :/ My sister can't find the chord to her digital camera, and since I don't have a job, I can't get one myself. ah well.

The lips were one of the major things that were bugging me when I decided to redo the face. I still need to work on the eyes, but I have to get an eye beveler tool to do that, and his face has been filled out much more then it was, and made more realistic then it was here.

The biggest issue I have with him right now, though, is his head is too small for the body I made for him. it's actually made to be in human-style proportions, and that means the head is too small for the body. So I've technically got two dolls in progress with this doll. :XD:

Most PS3 cords for the controllers fit digital cameras, so if you have one you can try it out. xD

Well, you can see if his head fits already pre-existing bodies and work from there.
